TEXT: MATTHEW 23:25-36

This is the final set of criticisms offered by Jesus to the scribes and Pharisees. In this passage, we see Jesus addressesing them as outwardly righteous, but inwardly hypocritical. Then he lumps them in with their fathers, who had killed the prophets.

Jesus next tells them that He will send them scribes, prophets and wise men, but that they will be ill treated and even killed by the scribes and Pharisees. (REFERENCE: Matthew 23:34).

TEXT: MATTHEW 23:13-24

Jesus begins to list His complaints against the scribes and Pharisees. He doesn't mention the Sadducees in these verses.

As an outline of verses 13-36, we see that Jesus lists the sins He has found among the scribes and Pharisees from verses 13-33. He judges those sins from verses 34-36.

Jesus denounces the scribes and Pharisees - Part 1

Jesus is still in the temple, having put all of the religious leaders to silence. He now turns his attention to His disciples, and the multitudes listen in.

Jesus lays out an important principle: Do what your religious leaders say, but don't act the way they do.
